Unsung Heroes in an ungrateful world

By Henrik Eger

Translated by one of my Afghan friends who wanted to stay anonymous for fear of repercussions.
In honor of all Afghan interpreters who did their best
Picture
Even my tears will not soothe the pain of those Afghans who got beheaded by fellow Afghans.

As a German, I can only think of the torture and gassing of innocent people in Nazi concentration camps who happened to be Jewish, or Communist, or gypsy, or gay, or people too young or too old or too sick to work.

I am holding a puppet here in honor of Jewish victims. If I could, I would make a puppet in honor of each Afghan interpreter who got slaughtered like an animal before Eid by unholy men who, in the name of Islam and Afghanistan, are destroying Islam and Afghanistan without knowing the damage they are doing to all of us.

My condolences to all translators and their families and friends, those interpreters who were murdered, those Afghan translators who still languish in internment and refugee camps around the globe, hoping for support from the countries whom they supported through their work, to all those bright young men who live in fear of being dragged to the butcher block soon:

TASLYAT, Afghanistan.
TASLYAT, you linguistic bridge builders for a better world.
TASLYAT, Islam.

And for those of you who will never come back into this life:
Farewell, Ave Vale, Bedrood.
You are the unsung heroes in an ungrateful world.

TASLYAT, Islam.
TASLYAT, you linguistic bridge builders for a better world.
TASLYAT, Afghanistan.

The Afghan government and Afghan Independent Human Right Commission are not only taking actions on the murdering cases of afghan translators who working with the NATO and coalition forces but also after 13 years of services, NATO also turning their back to their interpreters who served shoulder to shoulder with them in the battle field and front lines.
During the twelve years of NATO and coalition forces’ missions in Afghanistan, the Afghan translators have played an important role while their salaries were low. But they always stand beside the international and national forces in the missions. The Afghan translators have had basic roles in the twelfth year missions of international forces in Afghanistan. For example; as consultancy, mobilizing the afghan forces and were the closest cultural and social consultants of American and international forces, especially; respecting the religious and cultural values during the missions with the coalition forces. The presences of Afghan translators have decreased the civil causalities even sometimes in order to save the civilians especially the children they lost their lives. It is worth mentionable that the afghan translators have faced a lot of difficulties and several times during these twelfth years of foreign forces missi

I buy everything Abdul said in comment above. But my case is even more rediculous. I worked as a linguist for NATO and ISAF including USSF for over 8 years; and during these 8 years I followed all the rediculous regulations they asked me and did nothing wrong I wasn't terminated, fired, blacklisted or watchlisted yet it's been almost 2 years after my interview and I'm still in Afghanistan and pursue a very low profile life. Due to my profession, a lot of unfriendly villagers who support Taliban, injured and captured Taliban know my face and cannot go around and live a normal life. I really don't know what U.S gov is looking for? If I was a bad fellow wasn't it possible to show my true color in that 8 years or 2 years after? While everyone was checked through ciascreening every 6 months while one was operative. Plz someone help me and other innocent linguist.
